Conditions weren’t perfect, but from the perspective of three local high school sports teams they were good enough to get the games in. The deluge of rain that has forced the postponement of most high school athletic events in the state the last two days wasn’t enough to keep the Pomperaug High girls lacrosse team or the Woodland and Wilby golf teams from playing Tuesday.

The NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification announced today that the University of Vermont has been certified without qualification, as part of the Association’s second cycle of athletics certification. A designation of certified means that an institution operates its athletics program “in substantial conformity with operating principles adopted by the Division I membership.” Vermont sponsors 20 varsity sports (11 for men, 9 for women) in its intercollegiate program.
